Do or Do Not, There is No Try in Earning Money Online

September 6, 2009 – 6:57 pm

You know, I’ve seen a LOT of people looking to make money online. I’ve seen soooo many blogger blogs that look as though they were designed to start earning money online and it seems as though 80% or more of what I find has that aroma of being abandoned. Now, I can’t know the background of all of these, some of them though seem to be in some good money niches with low competition though. I’m sure some of them turned out to be dead end ideas for whoever started them. I’m coming to believe that the only way to fail at earning money online is to not do anything.

Just like the little green jedi says – “do or do not, there is no try.” Get a plan, start working on it, learn, adjust your plan as need be, but keep working at it and you WILL get there. You may not make billions, but you’ll be earning money online and then you can focus on your next project to add to it.

I’ve had to give myself a mental whipping the last few days. I joined the war room over at warriorforum.com and got absolutely immersed in so much quality information. Earlier in the week I had come across a new refinement on my online earnings strategy and the problem was I was spending all my time either 1) checking my stats to see how my work last weekend was turning out and 2) reading the forums a couple times a day.

Wasting time in other words.

Nothing about sitting reading forums is directly going to make you money. Nothing.

Warriorforum.com has some GREAT resources, don’t get me wrong there is gold dust in there! But you won’t make a single cent for just reading it. You HAVE to do it. So, I whipped myself around a few times and came to the conclusion that the big thread that I was reading I was not going to spend 4 hours in a single day working on it. I was going to work on my keyword research and write content for my sites and to promote my sites. Period.

Stats….. last weekend I had a good earnings break through of sorts. Several days of very good earnings and what did I spend my time doing? I spent my time ogling my stats. Yes, I logged in to statcounter, checked my wordpress stats, checked analytics, checked adsense, checked clickbank.

So, do you think ANY of that earned me any money? Not a dime. I was making money from the ACTIONS I had taken Sunday evening, not by my obsession with looking to see how good things were going.

Growing up, we had a basketball goal and I spent a lot of time shooting baskets. Sometimes I did really well and I’d decide to start tracking how well I was shooting. It would always go out the window when I started keeping track of it. I’d find 0 for 10 runs all of a sudden. Why? My focus was on the STATS, not on getting the shots made.

I’m doing a bit better now after the mental beating I’ve given myself, but the bottom line is this. Check your stats ONLY if doing so will help you adjust and improve what you are DOING. It’s an important part of the feedback loop. Don’t waste much time on it though. Keep your head in the game and let your stat trackers do their job. Get out of the forums and get to work.

Research your keywords, build your sites, write content and promote your site. Forward MOMENTUM. If you get stumped and aren’t making progress spend a bit of time looking at stats to figure out what’s going in, read in the forums some for advice, but take what you need and get back to work.

On the warriorforum there is at least one member that is fond of telling people to make sure they do something for their business each and every day. Get up having a mission of using your sites to make more money and get out there and build!
