Keep Moving Forward

Not too long ago I saw the animated movie “Meet the Robinson’s” It was a neat movie on several levels. One of which was that the main character was an inventor. If you don’t want the movie spoiled and haven’t seen it, don’t read on because I’m about to really give away a bit of the movie here, but it makes sense to get to my point. So, I’ll hide things after the break in case your squeamish about spoilers for movies…
Okay – anyway the movies been out a few years so it shouldn’t be a big let down for anyone anyway. Well the main character is an orphan who thinks of himself as an inventor and he embarks on building a gadget to help him bring back the memory of his mother leaving him at the orphanage, well…. the first showing of the memory playback doesn’t work – it actually somewhat blows up…. twists and turns occur and a kid shows up in a time machine and whisks him into the future. It turns out that it’s HIS child and his future is really hinging more or less on this one invention of his to play back memories.
The family that he meets is quite eccentric and peculiar, there are quite a few futuristic inventions and he is asked to fix one. Unfortunately it doesn’t work and everyone reassures him that you learn more from failure than from success. Further they say that “dad says”…. keep moving forward. The reveal of course is that it’s an older version of the kid that shows up as the father (he meets his future self and is told that his best and favorite invention was the one he had been working on.)
Now I’ve left out a lot of details because the parts that stuck with me the most are “keep moving forward” and that you learn more from failure than success. This is all VERY true.
Whether you’re inventing gadgets of the future or running a business if you’re not learning from your mistakes you should be. If you’re not learning from other peoples mistakes you should be as well. When you’re working at online business (or offline business for that matter.) You should make a point to keep moving forward as well.
I’m doing a lot of online “internet marketing” I guess you could call it in my quest to earn money online. One of the things I’ve seen over and over…. “do something for your business every day.” In other words KEEP MOVING FORWARD.
Persistence, determination….. it’s something that sets apart those people that truly and remarkably change the world, from the ordinary and average people that just shuffle through their lives.
Thomas Edison learned many hundreds if not thousands of materials that would not work well for a light bulb filament before he found the one that really worked. He didn’t give up. He worked for months testing and failing to the view of outside observers. To him though, I suspect none of it was a failure because he WASN’T FINISHED. Get out there, get your hands dirty, DO things, LEARN, do them better, make mistakes, LEARN, improve and succeed! KEEP MOVING FORWARD!
