Be Persistent in Your Work to Build Your Business

Online, just the same as offline, you need to work on building your business every day. Keep your eyes on the goal of increasing your business. If you’re online you will be looking for ways every single day to increase traffic to your site. With a brick and mortar business you want to be looking for ways to get more people through the door. With both, you are probably also looking for more ways to increase your conversions (that percentage of visitors that become customers.)

Every time I have thought one of my websites hit the maximum number of visitors that niche could see in one day, it has surprised me by drawing in just a bit more traffic. Keep working at it.

The main thing to keep in mind with this is that building a business (whether it’s online or offline) is not something you do on Thursday and then you’ve finished. It’s something you need to revisit every day.

There are certainly things that you can do that can decrease the amount of work you have to do to grow the business. You can have promotions where existing customers or visitors can get the word out for you. Those are certainly great, but you shouldn’t rely on that as your only way of growing. Get out there and work for it and your work will be rewarded.

I am of the attitude that with living creatures and businesses the same principle is true, you are either growing or declining. There is no such thing as “coasting” along. If you think you are coasting you are probably starting a decline.

It’s also easy to take a look at your time and the numbers you see and decide that things just aren’t working. It’s great to re-evaluate your methods, but don’t let that keep you from pushing forward with NEW methods or changes to the ones you have already been using. Many ways of promoting web sites take some real time to do them correctly and the benefits are sometimes not immediate. Double check your method and what you know should work. If it’s something that should be working and you think you are doing it as best as possible, keep at it and keep looking for signs of results. If they don’t come after a reasonable time, then reconsider whether that approach is something that you might replace with something different. The bottom line though is to be persistent and keep working towards the goal even if your tactics to get there change.
